Tokyo Girls
Japanese culture is different. Fascinatingly different. In his native Japan, Yasuji Watanabe from the trendy metropolis of Tokyo ranks among the stars of the younger generation of photographers.
Though his oeuvre is in the tradition of the old master Nobuyoshi Araki, he has gone on to evolve his own unique erotic language of images.
The girls in his pictures live out their erotic fantasies and obsessions in front of his camera. Watanabe understands them intuitively.
He portrays the girls as they indulge in the pleasure of playing, as well as in their lust and sexuality, which can express itself as pain, loneliness, expectation, stimulation, melancholy and submission.
An exciting visual trip into an exotic culture.

"A photographic journey into a strange and alien
culture. Nearly all of Watanabe's meticulously staged shots are highly erotic."

"Men's fantasies, unbelievable girls, and Japanese
dreams: a report about erotic schoolgirls, told in bluish-hued photos of young
women in various degrees of nudity. A fascinating photobook

erotic themes range between bondage and exhibitionism."

"Watanabe's subjects are captured in the most playful
of settings, but their brazen sense of provocative nudity and sexuality saturates
everything. Like little costumed dolls they prance and posture, but they also
offer themselves to be bound and tied-up and paraded as objects of sexual
fantasy. As a whole, this book is a visual diary of a young, ultra-inventive,
and technically astute photographer working at the height of his powers. At
10.5" x 10.5" and flawlessly packaged, this is a superb production
and one of the most creative books of erotic art photography published this
year."
